Board Request

Post by daniel_spain »

i would really like to see a Tele-Arena main forum since it is still a highly sought after game. and possibly a Tele-Arena Game Engine board for the new engine.
My new engine is to die for and would love for a "phoenix" main bbs to be online for sysops interestesd to see it. I wont leak too many details in passing like
this but if you create the board ill lay it on quite thick :)

I would be interested to know what the current player base size is for Tele-Arena, do you have any ideas on this?

I can say that when The Underground was still online, TA was really the only game anyone was interested in. A handful of TW2002 players, but TA was mainly it. It's tough to say what the actual player base was though, because most of them were alternate characters. Its common practice anymore for someone to login with 3-5 characters on their own, to form a group of players to get to certain areas of the game where you really cant do it alone. Mainly because finding a board with enough active online players to play a group like that is hard anymore. So 20 people online, might have been 4 actual players.

All that being said, TA still has a pretty big fan base. It's really the thing that's kept me interested in this project over the years.

Tele-Arena Platinum has 44 online right now, my 2.0 Test Server has 11 online. This is just my engines. TA97 has another 38 online, and as Venom said there are plenty splintered bbs's out there with their own community ranging from 10-20 online at any given time.
I created the sqlite powered Tele-Arena Game Engine to give sysops more "options" as now they can edit ANYTHING from within the game including races and classes and last me and Rick spoke he wanted to know where I was and told me ab out the new upcoming stuff going on. I even have a brand new ported 5.6 engine for the sysops that just want the "basic no bells and whistles game" that is why I was hoping for a tele-arena forum.

guilty as charged have you seen the script I released? it is an automation tool that will play til cleanup, relay and keep on going. So yeah tons of alternate character play but tbh majored has gone this route too.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with scripting. The game is scriptable, and i get that its a tedious crawl at times, but isnt the point of the game, to play it? And yea, MMud has the exact same thing going on.

The board I learned TA on had a very strict no scripting rule. And I think it made the game more fun for everyone playing. It was more social, because you could actually expect a person to be at the keyboard.

But i get it. scripts are a fun challenge to write, and it does cut out the tedious parts of the game. *shrug*

its funny all these years later as a developer I am combating the very tech I helped create. With Tele-Arena Platinum I created "quests" for the monk to get their abilities unlocked, and a few other "random exit" rooms and such but players always find a way to script it in Tele-Arena Reborn I am trying to give both types of players a game to play with the crafting systems and such that's a little harder to script, daily quests, hunts, timed events all these things to try and give "at-key" players some advantages but in the end I guess even those players will script at night and when they aren't doing something timed. I mean I guess all new can do is give them a place to have fun.

Yea, i used to maintain a pretty strict anti-scripter rule on The Underground. Eventually, i just gave up. Figured, if they want to script, let them. As long as theyre not hurting any other players.

Sounds like you have quite a bit of extension built into your TA builds. Oddly i've never tried them out. Where can i see them in action?

Tele-Arena Platinum 1.0 is online at bbs.arcticzonebbs.net 2.0 is in alpha stage but on my test system at testbbs.arcticzonebbs.net
Tele-Arena Reborn is in early dev stages.
Tele-Arena Game Engine is done and can be tested on the test system from above. make an account and send me an email with your id I can key you for edit access. it is so sysops can see the editors in action.
The new 5.6 engine is on there as well for wg3. Me and Rick already kicked up talks to get these games to you guys.
