Hi,

I've managed to install GalacticWars but I'm not sure if I've set it up properly because I keep on crashing the whole BBS.


Installation:

1) close BBS
2 ) Uncompress files to temp dir. and copy them to c:\bbs\mjv10
3) Run bbs

Running:

1) I telnet and create a new user, say alpha1
2) I enter GalacticWar
- Sign up and create new planet. Named Alphahq
- It then tells me I need to get validated.

3) When I press Play again, I'm given the "Press RETURN if you wish to sign up now".
When I enter Alphahq, the BBS crashes.
There is an error: "C:\bbs\mjv10\wgserver.exe - BTRIEVE INSERT ERROR 5 ON FILE "elwgaru.dat"

So I copy the uncompressed files for GalacticWars to c:\bbs\mjv10 and try again:

1) I telnet. log in as alpha1
2) enter GalacticWars
3) Signup.. create planet name as AlphaHQ
- needed validation

Then I log in as Sysop [while alpha1 is still in GalacticWars],
4) enter GalacticWar
5) Play
6) Validate
7) Enter 002 (for AlphaHQ)
8) Exit

9) As Alpha1, when I Play GalacticWar
10) It then gives me the "Press RETURN if you wish to sign up now"
11) Instead of entering AlphaHQ, I enter BetaHQ
12) Need to Validate
13) I quit GalacticWar

I repeat step 4 -> 8 except for step #7, I enter 003 (for BetaHQ)

14) I enter GalacticWar (as alpha1) and when I press P to play, I'm given the same "Press RETURN ..." message.
15) When I enter BetaHQ and press Y,

The BBS crashes.

With the Same error "C:\bbs\mjv10\wgserver.exe - BTRIEVE INSERT ERROR 5 ON FILE "elwgaru.dat"

So, I copy the files again... and start the BBS

I try it again.

1) telnet into bbs as alpha1
2) enter GalacticWars
3) press RETURN.
4) Entered AlphaHQ
5) Press Y to save
6) - note to need validate, so I quit GalacticWars (but stay online)

7) Log in as sysop
8) Enter GalacticWars.
9) Play
10) Validate
11) Enter 002 for AlphaHQ
12) Quit from galacticWars

13) as alpha1, I enter GalacticWars
14) When I type in Play, I'm given the "Press RETURN if you wish to sign up"
15) Enter AlphaHQ. Press Y
16) BBS crashes. with the BTRIEVE error.

Am I doing something wrong is or is GalacticWars not compatible with MJv10?

We will do some testing based on what you have reported.

Not every module/game has been fully tested under V10 but we can look into it.

The guys at Elwynor will have the source code for the game so we should be able to resolve it.

I was able to reproduce the error and have reported it to Elwynor who own the game.

This bug has been fixed. There's a new version v5.02 that can be used to replace it. Unfortunately it means replacing all the DAT files, but...

I will make a copy available for download via the demo system in the next few days.
