Re: Anyone gonna Open Source this yet?

I see a lot of open source software that is no longer being developed or even worked on. Open source isn't always the answer. Besides, open sourcing WG, if that happened, doesn't solve the problem ISV modules that are no longer being updated, such as MajorMUD. I think you missed my point. It's the ...

Anyone gonna Open Source this yet?

Hey folks! It has been a long time but I thought I'd poke my head in and see how things are going. All I can do is shake my head and laugh at all the legal issues and money grabbing that are happening in this community. ALTHOUGH super interesting, it makes me sad to see that things haven't changed ...

I think what you meant to say there is that TW2002 for WG/MBBS is "abandoned".

Don't worry, practice saying it to yourself a couple times and it'll feel less dirty ;)

your dramatization of the situation is pretty good :P i said in my post that with a little effort, people could make cracking modules much harder. anyways, my intention is to give people the ability to free up modules that are completely abandoned with no means to register. what they do beyond that ...

oh you guys :) it has been a few years, but here's a quick blurb i sent to someone a while back which should give folks enough information to do what they need to do. the only tools you'll need are Win32DASM and HIEW (worth the money, so pay for it). If you check the Exports for the DLL in Win32DASM ...

I would ask the owner of mbbs and wg first. You could end up up court. I don't think there's any legal ground to stand on here. First, really, it'd just be information that is freely available anywhere on the net. Examples such as: - How to use Win32DASM - How to parse NE Format DLL's The part ...

Re: Scored on eBay!

Was able to score a boxed, sealed copy of WG 2.0 for Windows with 20-user license for the low, low price of $40! Of anything, it's a fun little piece to have on the bookshelf :P nice find, 2.0 was dos only though. still a good find, did it have the manuals? Haven't loaded it yet, but the disks read ...

I guess I just don't buy the argument that the ability to unlock and enjoy hundreds of abandoned modules will cause the currently MAINTAINED modules (numbering in like, what, the tens?) to suffer. I suppose I'll just release the information in the sense that it's educational to understand how MBBS ...

/bump just to offer a little bit of input here, i think a howto crack mbbs modules would be very dangerous to the future of this platform. then anyone could crack even something released next week. Although I never released it, I think there's still value in it. There are archives of literally ...

Win32DASM handles the NE Format DLL's produced by WG/Borland just fine.

You can find a copy by just using Google. I use HIEW to make changes to the assembly since it translates the op codes for me. :D

Also be aware that WG/MBBS/Vircom didn't work with all packet drivers. For example, Intel's packet driver for the Pro 10/100+ card would not work, where as the 3Com 905b would.

Well, seems there's not that many. I'm working on documenting MajorBBS/WG disassemblies and identifying external subroutines. So far, it's looking like this: [DISASSEMBLY] 9AFFFF0000 -- call MAJORBBS.Ord{01CFh} [DEFINITION] _OUTPRF @463 [EXPLANATION] This is a call ...

MBBST.LIB

I've looked through a lot of the source files included with the MBBS packages and I haven't been able to find this library which seems referrenced by quite a few header files.

Any thoughts? :D

I've cracked the following modules for MajorBBS 6.25:

Distant Places 1.20 T-LORD (T-LORD IGM Module)
Dialsoft DS-DOS v3.8 (MBBS Utility Module)
Archery v1.4 (MBBS Game Module)
Oltima 2000 (MBBS Game Module)
The Casino v5.10 (MBBS Game Module)

I can upload the cracks somewhere if needed. :D

Obligatory Hey Everyone! I started BBSing late in the game, around 1994... I was in 6th grade at the time. My local BBS ran MajorBBS 6.25 and had Tele-Area. I remember playing Tele-Arena until my eyes bled. When I ran out of credits, I'd stay up until 3AM so I could play before the board went ...

Reverse Engineers?

Hey, calling out to anyone with experience reverse engineering MajorBBS 6.25/WG 1.x/2.x modules.

I think coming together and discussing techniques and obstacles could help give life to otherwise abandoned modules. :D
