Hmm, might be a missing system file somewhere. I'll see if I can run it down tonight and get it fixed. I have to be honest, I'm not much of an external door guy, so this one got past me.

have you verified these to show up in a standard WGM? could be the program itself as Highwinder didnt reinvent the wheel he just put some rubber on it for better traction.

I still might be misunderstanding. So you're trying to develop GUI menus and you're not seeing your installed games, is that it?

NO-NO

I am using the WGM to load the WG-NT games into the menus for WG.....the WG-NT games cannot be found in the menu editor under WGM-Client......

Please let me know how this goes. As far as I can tell, I have included all system files. I have actually not made any changes to the WGM, just compatibiluty stuff that the installer adds to Windows XP, 2003 and Vista32. The WGM itself is compeltely stock in the Generic Release. Please give this a good test, as I don't have a WG system, up and running with any games on it.

By the way, I updated the documentation in most all of these posts and the on-screen documentation in the downloadables themselves to reflect 32-bit Vista/2008 compatibility.

That sure was careless of me. Sheesh...

I dont know if I said this

Thank YOu for fixing the WG Manager , it is a most welcomed addition to the old WG-BBS.....

On a second note i have been very busy desiging menu's with the HPE ( Hyper Media Page Editor ) and the next question is ? can any one out there change a few seeting in that program ? Like if you set it to a Link from a button it errors because it looks for IE in the programs directory ( old school )....

Oh, hey - my pleasure. Glad to have been able to contibute something to the Worldgroup world. :D

I personally think WG is the coolest BBS system ever made, and by a longshot (though I have to humbly bow before SynchroNet as well, also totally awesome and even much better in a few ways). What really made WG cool for me is the insanely cool GUI client capabilities. Nothing ever came even remotely close to that. PowerBBS tried, but it was terrible.

It's an absolute shame that WG just feels like it's bascially been left for dead. (To clarify, that's a bold-faced dare for WG4 to actually get taken seriously enough to get released).

It may be BOLD for me to say this , but i honestly beleave the internet is taking a step backwards . Big business i walking away as its offering in ONline sales are not what they expected and it may actualy receed back to the people ( no dial up please ) . I think WG never died it just got put on hold , now if we can get the people involved again and play the game right , it can come back with evenmore power . I am nOT a programmer but i do have a very good sense of direction .

WG Wishlist---->

The future of WG is to create NOT 1 but a MASS of WG , we link every system in every way and incorpoate every city capable into 1 lump pot and become the AOL of the future. Now i dont mean be a supper Power internet provider BUT a Super Power in content Games/News/Music/all out entertainment ........

Thats how WG can and still could be BIG. Whats in it for US as system operators ----> Advertising dolars <------ hey if google can make millions by telling us where to go , i 'll tell you where to go for less LOL

Well, that's a pretty big plan.

For starters, I'd be happy enough just to see WG support long filenames in the file areas.

I'm talking about built-in long filename support - something that shouldn't take a $200 add-on product. One major setback of Worldgroup is the insane prices associated with doing anything with it. A fully loaded 255-node system should cost no more than $500 max (considering you can download similar systems for free). It's no mystery why WG is in a state of nothingness. It's priced to be inaccessible.

Nah, I'm not talking about anyone doing that, we don't legally own it. I do not subscribe to calling something "abandonware" when it isn't. But those who own/are in charge of WG could certainly take change of the situation and get this product moving before it has sat long enough to become completely obsolete and worthless. It's well on it's way.

SynchroNet BBS is outstanding, and is given away for free. It even supports virtually every door ever made. But before you start to thik I'm plugging Synchronet, here's the wake-up call: even being 100% free, feature-packed and extremely stable, SynchroNet hasn't generated any kind of BBS re-awakening out there at all. The crickets are still chirping.

For BBSes to come back, they need to be extremely modernized, with focus on the web interfaces for the message forums. For example, why are we posting on freeware "phpBB" system when we should be posting on a WG system?

yeah but no system out there comes remotely close to its security.
i wouldnt go as low as 500 but a 256 node system with full capability should be $999 we have to keep in mind this product can run someones small business, email servers, etc... a lite version with some limitations $499

problem with newer door games is they are still too limited, yeah back in the 80's - 90's with dial-up you needed to constraint online time, so login play your game turns and go on, and some games need to be like that but in terms of RPG's and exploration games WG is hands down the way to go.
tele-arena, majormud, all of those could entertain you for hours on end and if a door ever came to that mimiced one of them it would very well take off and the crickets would go silent atleast for a year or so.

wg 3.30 actually introduced the early stages of a new web interface for forums/email, etc.... before visuals are done i just wanna get the search engines to pick em up, that is clutch.

also in regards to legally owning it and writing things for it, i dont own it and i have released several service packs for WG, all ya need is a developers license.

Of course, the Netvillage "version" of Worldgroup is illegal as they don't own the rights to Worldgroup.

So anything you're doing for them, Dan, is helping keep Worldgroup down.

I assume you're talking about "Worldgroup Lite"?

So what gives with Netvillage, anyway? What's all that about and how did that happen and why is everything such a mess now?

yeah but i keep all my work i have no intention of having it sent out in any illegal, versions i have spent far too many man hours to have it made a mockery of or be included in pirated software.
if anything its for my server, only thing im having trouble with now is having the perl API work from within a pre bc 5.5 compiler but all that in due time, since i began my own MMORPG i been way too busy lately anyhow, i want to release a small beta of it but i got to go over it and make sure any sounds/art/graphics arent IP of someone else.
the original idea was to allow WG to be the "server" and the WGMAN being the "client" and making it WG specific but the platform we ended up going with was c# and the .net 2.0 framework so plugging into WG wasnt optional.

Their are 2 separate menu tree's one for client and one for ansi. Click the wee tree from your WG client menu bar, then toward the bottom you'll see

Client /Server *
Terminal 0

click the one you want to work on.

You will need to add each module you run to each menu tree. One for terminal(ansi) and one for Clients. This is also a good way to edit menu comands without takeing the bbs down.
If you want I have made a pdf of the client manual and editor manual. you can view it on gcomm archive if its up or download it from my bbs. I belive its in the ISVSOLO file area. Thier is also a few other pdfs of WG manuals and stuff thier. You can use the WG client software with my bbs.

Well, I said that because Questman Owns Worldgroup,
and unless netvillage has a license to make a new version it will be lawyers at ten paces.
He forbid them to release version 4 years ago.

I'm gong to chime in here...after all these years there still seems to be a mystery who really owns WG..what gives with all this? If Questman owns this, why is netvillage still in operation, why didn't he have them shut down? Why does metropolis say to goto netvillage to get WG..I guess I don't understand..all I've ever read is QM saying he owns WG, nothing more really...maybe he should consider legal action against these people?

Some of those changes to what you call WG5 sure looks like what I have created from scratch on my website and were idealogicly unique to my bbs.

Questman owns it check out the many post here and on the SEC showing NV has no claim to wg as when Galacticomm ceased due to bankrupticy all assets became property of the bank who foreclosed. end of galacticomm. Questman buys from bank.

not much else needs to be said.

I would love to see NV provided publicly how they aquired galacticomm assets from the forclosure, altho that discussion should move to its own topic..

E-Mail me (questman at themajorbbs d0t com).

I have nothing to hide. The physical assets were stolen and moved across the state border from Florida to Maryland. The court documents previously linked show not only the foreclosure but the instruction that the sheriff should go physically recover the assets. Unfortunately when they crossed the state line the Florida sheriff couldn't do it. It's almost felonious at this point because they crossed state lines with stolen property.

As for the Bill Of Sale it's my right not to post my stuff for the world to see but if you want to see something I can arrange it.

Quest i think you owe the community the ease of mind that indeed you are the owner . I personaly planned to get involved with WG5 by purchasing it , BUT now i findmy self in a crossfire.......

Whom ever can show Bill of sale OR a form of legall ownership i will resepct BUT if both of you have reasonable ownership papers and they are legal.....hell i cant be held respobsible for any decissions i make from that point.....

Thats why i say Questman............. Show us the BEEF....i will also ask the other party to provide said ownship as well.......

Quest show us your cards of get outta the game........

Will the REAL Slim Shady please stand up ( LOL )
