Last I heard a week or 2 ago, the server went down with hardware problem and Newport is working to restore it.

Hopefully he will get it back online soon.

My worldlink connects everyday and there are only like 4 others listed as connected to worldlink.
Even when connected to other boards no one ever uses it
Sysop of CedarValley & CedarNet BBSes
CedarValley BBS online since Oct 1998 WG 3.20
CedarNet online since Oct 2005 WG 3.30

You need to get the updated dll from Questman or Newport (tls.wetookyour.tv)

The current server is located at: "worldlink.themajorbbs.com"

I wish we could buy copies of the worldlink server software so systems could have private networks, like the old chatlink systems. course if you have a dos system you can still have private networks. just try to find another system running chatlink thou.

I see alot of boards are not connected 24-7. Seem's like the scheduler doesnt log the bbs's in until 6am EDT. Thier is usually only 3 connected midnight to 6am

theswampbbs
Nostalgiabbs
seabreezen

the rest of you should check you schedules, I have it set to connect from
begin 0010
end 2359
each day of the week with 20 attempts max per day, that way if the WL server is down you wont get pounded with connect error messages.

Also the defualt worldlink channel doesnt seem to work anymore. I am set to connect to the worldlink general chat but hasn't connect to that chat channel since before it went down about a month ago.

That would kind of miss the point of Worldlink.

I was wondering is their any way to config worldlink to use other connected worldlink bbs as host if the main WL server goes down? or have a second server to serv as backup when the main goes down?

I dont think so. you can put other addresses in the config,
hmm, but only connect 1 for a dial config.

I don't mean to be an ass, and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few other Sysops on here, but doesn't having the one and only WG Server OFFLINE for 6 months kind of miss the point as well. Just sayin.

Sorry. I've been working 60+ hour weeks. The guy who ran the site didn't have good backups so when his hard drive went down I was hosed.

There are many things I'm trying to do but it hasn't gotten done yet.

I know you don't really know me, but I've been a Sysop and owned my own Computer Business since 1991.

I use to Beta Test for High Velocity Software (Genesys) and Red Mountain (MADM) back in the day. I've spent probably $15,000 on WG Software over the years and I've got 7 pages of Activation Codes to prove it.

I have Servers that are on-line 24/7 that I could run the Worldlink Server on. One of them is a Dedicated Server located at a Tier 4 Co-Location Facility in Omaha Nebraska called Co-Sentry ( http://www.cosentry.com ) running an Dell PowerEdge 8 Core Xeon, 4GB Ram and 250GB RAID H/D. The other ones are here in my Home/Office, but are also up 24/7 and they've been on-line like that for over 3 years now. Let me know, I'd be glad to help and I'm willing to sign Non Disclosure Agreements or whatever you need to make you feel comfortable.

So naturally mine doesn't work LOL. I went in and got rid of the old addresses and changed it to worldlink.themajorbbs.com and when I try to connet it is connecting to 192.168.1.100 (which is the internal IP of my BBS PC) What the heck is going on? Dspain compiled me some new files when I was using the old worldlink, and I put the new patched .DLL file back on for the linked TC, but I dont know where it is getting that address to connect to when Im telling it to connect to a different one. Any ideas?

**Edit**
Now when I connect it says ERROR DNS LOOKUP (-2) worldlink.themajorbbs.com is not a valid (and it cuts off the txt there)

I changed the DNS. Your DNS server might be lazy. It should resolve to:

Name: worldlink.themajorbbs.com
Address: 205.166.250.238

It might take over 24 hours for your DNS server to get new info.

Be patient. If it doesn't resolve by 10:45 pm EDT I recommend you run a flush DNS (ipconfig /flushdns). If that doesn't work tomorrow I'd call the ISP.

Can I just point it to your IP address or does that change often?

I recommend you create a second phone book entry in the Worldlink Client and rename the original one to 'foo'. then go to each entry for each day and manually change the foo to worldlink.themajorbbs.com "phone number". then it should resolve itself.

Yah it connects with no problems. Nothing works tho. Im thinking some of the files maybe dspain made for me are causing issues, even though I reverted back to the old ones. ^U doesn't work, and /? doesnt work, and so on and so forth. When I go into TC Im just in a main TC and cannot join any linked ones.

Yah, I checked, all of that is correct, so I guess that goes back to my original statement, if there is somewhere I can download a fresh worldlink mod and reinstall it?

Thanks

*Edit*
Ok, so I found an old copy of the BBS and replaced some files and it is working now. Don't know what the problem was, but it works so I guess that is all that matters.

**I was wondering tho, I was in the remote BBS management on the website, and I *DID* see the world link forum manager. How can we make that work so the systems that are linked up and have that?

Thanks!

Make sure 1st off all your web page dir's have been secured in secureweb, more help in other forums here how to do it.

Many people had troubles with WL forums being configured fro the web interface when we set it up way back. Try useing the Client to setup the forums it seemed to take better. Only use the scheduler setup from the sysop console that works best.

Once you get all the forums setup and connected, post a message in them
some other sysop or user will see them and respond to your "test" messages.

Yes these ones only work for configuration from webpage.
http//bbsname.xxx/secureweb **** secure all your pages /tele, /polls etc
http//bbsname.xxx/wl-forum-manager
http//bbsname.xxx/worldlink-scheduler

You can also config forums inside the client forum manager and telnet also.

The Forums if configured properly should work like any of your forums. They work similtaneuosly in Telnet, Client, Web interfaces. The only differance being the WL flag meaning they send and recieve to WL server then out to other bbs's. You wont recieve past mail from the worldlink forums, only new messages.

Send a few test messages out in each message base to check if your sending to the WL hub.

There were a few issues over the past week, but I think we're in good shape moving forward.

Initially, the server was at my house for testing, so I didn't have to run down to the data center each time something screwed up.

Once it was stable, I moved it to the data center.

Then we had a firewall problem yesterday, so I built a new firewall, which caused a few hiccups. I installed it today and all is stable. :)

It should be stable moving forward.

Same goes for High Society. It's in the data center, but I am still building a new server for that system. I might have time this week to complete it, and after that, HS will be stable as well.

Regards,

Randy

I have noticed a few people trying to use the WorldLink ID type "Virtual"
and they show up as part of xxxx.elwynor.com not sure if that was intended.

I use to always enter tc into worldlink, still set the same use worldlink as default telconferance channel but users got to the domain named channel first. The cnf option USEWLCH is YES use worldlink channel by default but you still have to "join worldlink"

Thanks again for your efforts Randy :D

How do you set up worldlink? I have the updated DLL but WG refuses to "call" out.

I have "worldlink.themajorbbs.com" to dial in the ANSI setup. I have it scheduled and it does attempt but gives me a "ERROR: BAD COMMAND "worldlink.themajorbbs.com" in the audit trail.

It's almost like the IP is being executed as a command rather than being telnetted to.

Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

In General Setup check the following

-DNS resolver , HOSTNAM and DOMAIN

-Worldlink Scheduler be sure to use DOMTYP HOSTNAME or DOMAIN

Config the rest of the info about your bbs and the name should show correctly in worldlink. You will need updates from Questman before it will function correctly.

I can see that my board phaseshift.dyndns.org is being reported as dreamline.elwynor.com and I'm not entirely sure why. I am using 3.3 and the updated DLL.

DOMTYP = Domain
DOMAIN = phaseshift.dyndns.org

It calls and works just fine except for this problem.

Yep stock 3.3, nothing really unusual about it. Seems to be working now just fine, but I've noticed that some of the user counts on other systems are inaccurate, especially when no one is online. Is that something new? Other than that, works great.

I have to agree Questman, scince he logged into worldlink things havent been correct in the user counts. When he disconnects all returns to normal user counts.

User Counts

Post by Franchise_24 »

I don't know if this matters, but when I'm on as "Sysop" I'm always invisible, but worldlink still shows 1 user on my BBS but if you'd look at my BBS it shows no one online. Don't know if maybe this is something you are talking about or not, but figured I'd chime in.

Mmmm not so much..

Seems that my config somehow causes the user list to be incorrect. Kinda odd, and something I'd definitely like to troubleshoot if anyone could help.. Using 3.3 and Questman's DLL, nothing really weird.
