Been a long time!

Post by Malakai »

Well, it's been awhile since I've been on here. I recently gave Mr Brad of Lost-Gonzo BBS Nostalgia BBS's hard drives. Unfortunately, one was damaged during shipping, but I will be sending him a new control board soon and hope for the best.

For awhile, I was wondering if I did the right thing by shutting Nostalgia BBS down for a final time. I believe that I did. I still regret not getting my multi-node os/2 GHOST system up (due to not having a proper digiport card that would work with it) and a few other little things, but overall, I was generally satisfied. In a lot of ways, Majormud brought the system down, even though it brought lots more loggers in to the system.

My first copy of majormud worked fine, but people complained about it being too old and not having all of the stuff in it. So, upgrades ruined the system. None of the DOS versions worked correctly ever since, and when I decided to use a "used" majormud nt system, to have an established game, I got more complaints about items missing, etc.

So, what have I been up to lately? I've been working on my home theater system and media servers and in April will start work on my new addition/home theater room.

I've been messing with the ti-99/4a, with a cf7+ compact flash system/minipeb as well as with the commodore 64. In fact, I just bought a mini terminal server to hopefully do some telnet BBSing on them, although I'm not sure what the max baud is on the ti-99/4a. I know the terminal emulator carts only do like 300 baud, but maybe there's a terminal disk program that will do more? I still have to get an rs-232 system for it.

Recently bought a 3DTV, a ps3, about 10 3d movies for it, and 1 3d game (killzone 3.)... I went cheap and got a mitsubishi dlp system. The 3D depth and pop out of the screen stuff isn't nearly as good as the LG 3D tv that I demoed, but it's less than half the price.

In order to stream HD content from both of my households, I'm upgrading from cable modems to gigabit ethernet with a repeater in the middle, and I'm upgrading my rg-6 quad catv to rg-11, the largest 75 ohm cable there is. Apparently, RG-11 loses almost no signal for about 300'. With broadband distribution and drop amps placed strategically, the picture should be perfect.

BBS news? Well, I am considering going back to my roots and setting up a PCBoard BBS system, something that can be managed with 1, maybe 2 PCs total. The main system will either be running DOS or OS/2. I guess it depends on the nodes.. If I do one node, a dos system may be a better option. A mini terminal server would easily make it Internet compatible.

It'll probably be April or May before I know for sure about this BBS system. I've just been really busy lately, with volunteer work and doctors appointments, etc.
