In need of stuff

Post by JLittge »

I'm currently rebuilding my bbs from scratch. I have absolutely nothing beyond the baseline package. Building off of WG v3.30-NT. I'm hoping someone who read this can help. I need the following mods that work for WG V3.30NT.

MajorMUD - I need the latest installable version.

TW 2002 - I need latest installable version. (I'm doubtful of its existence.)

Regarding the other various catalogs the ISV's here offer, which site do I use specifically?

Thanks in advance, and I would feel much happier if these forums we're a tad bit more active.

Hello,
Getting the mod software isn't the hard part, there are plenty of mod installs out there that others have, it's getting the registration codes.
Most isv's are long since gone and no way of getting a activation code for..
If you want mud for example metro owns it but I hear they are now also gone, not sure if you can get a code if they still sell it.
Majormud costs a small fortune if you could get a code.....
There is even a debate on who owns worldgroup,is Worldgroup even available to buy now days?
Good luck, if you had your previous codes then you would have been set.
Sysop of CedarValley & CedarNet BBSes

I understand what your saying, but I am merely interested in the latest installers available. I have codes for them, just need the media.

Dspain's site I belive has a complete set of Major mud files, I cant rember what version you needed to install 1st and then upgrade the next 10 or so updates.

I appreciate all your comments, however I am specifically looking for MajorMUD for 3.30-nt and tradewars 2002. If these only work for 3.20 so be it, I'll downgrade.

Regarding DSpain's site, I logged on there a few times, checked the library and only see a total of like 5 files, so either it's a matter of having insufficient access priviladges or his library does not exist. Other sites I was suggested to going to get no site found, or not responding. My guess is that since the bulk of the discussions written thoughout the the site are from 2006-08 era, the project or enthusiasm once here is gone and void.

I also PM'd you Slinger as well as DSPain, and have no responces, but yea, I'm remaining hopeful, and hope the community rebounds, becasuse it sucks not seeing many new posts.

I believe anything that works for 3.2 will also work for 3.3 so if you have, or can get, a 3.2 mod, it will work on 3.3

I've also noticed Arctic Zone doesn't have any files in the library. Guess he's either cleaned house or something else is wrong. May check the Swamp. I know he has a lot of files there too.

I answered the message yesterday... hmmm maybe pmail is broken.
You dont need to ask to login to The Swamp BBS. You can acess all the file areas and download even in "Demo" user class, web or telnet.

Yes anything for 3.2 works in 3.3 just depends which flavour you prefer.

Arctic zone is likely bounceing from Tele Areana testing server to its normal server.

I've been meaning to ask about that. Reading the forums regarding Worldlink, it appears I need some .dll to connect. Would I need to contact Questman for the fix, or would I be able to find that somwhere else?

Well anyways, I logged onto your BBS Stoneslinger76 and found a nice library. However I don't see the latest MajorMUD installer. I noticed that your running version 1.1p. Any chance you can email me at jlittge@gmail.com with the 1.1p installer for WG 3.3-NT? Many thanks in advance.

You'd be best to find them elswhere, the machine that has them on it is temporarly dead till I find 2 matching drives to get the raid 5 config back up and runinng. No gaurantee I can rebuild it from the last good drive even when I do find 2 matching drives. (I am not paying antique dealer prices)
You may want to try Metropolis they are still online.

Also may other bbs's around with them.

Sigh, more running around. I'm really tired of hopping thru hoops to get a simple installer, screw it, I'll run a virgin board. Appreciate the help tho, but this is just rediculous hopping around 5 million places of which 95%+ of them return 404 errors, or simply do not exist.

Almost not even worth the hassle to even setup a system. Not your fault, nor anyone elses, but damn, this is getting old, and real fast.

Hey Stoneslinger76, What kind of Hard Drives are you looking for. I've got a bunch of older good working drives. Maybe I've got the ones you need.

that gave me too many headaches Tele-Arena seems to be really stable right now so im running it on the main server.

although i now have a secondary inet connection for when i test the new game engines coming out later in the year.

well technically 1.1p was available to paying sysops only so just to have it available is good news for you.
i got your pms and the attitude you are displaying for people trying to help you is a bit out of line.
we have all this up for free and dont charge a dime, sure you may have to go look here and there but eventually you'll fine it.

do you think we put these systems and resources online overnight?

its free for the community but it requires a little digging.

i have over 92,480 files available for download but i have my archive offline as i migrate to a more stable file transfer system, you just came in at a bad time, these other people been downloading from me for years.

Yes, I'm just very frustrated. However if you read beyond the rant portion of the message, I did not point anyone at fault. I merely generalized my feelings. I am very thankful for any help, and I would be very happy to return the favor as time goes.

But let's be honest, as I have stated in other posts, and even in PM's, most discussions that have been made on here are generally 2-3+ years old. So what worked for others in 2006, doesn't necessarily work for 2011. Some requests we're very specific. Then told to check some places, and find that it doesn't exist, or they simply don't have it.

I've been digging for weeks prior to finding this site for things I've owned since the mid 90's. I'm batting 1%. That 1% is finding this site and securing my WG software. I've sent numerous emails all over the place trying to contact various ISV's. I've received zero replies, so I'm very sorry for my attitude, was not directed towards anyone. I'm just venting frustration out loud. I realize now, I wish I didn't respond at all. I'm just not getting anywhere, and like most of you, I've invested thousands of dollars into my system. All destroyed by a fire. And although I realize that the scene itself will never be at a capacity as it once was over a decade ago, I do still have a vested interest in the project, and just want to enjoy doing it like most of you. But not having a single mod installed is not fun.

I'm not entirely sure what mods I need/want beyond the (2) which I specifically stated when creating this thread. Reason being is that I'm reading the entire forums and learning there are issues with some mods not being complete, while others are reporting issues trying to get reg codes for others.

In my case, I am in need of both installers, and activation codes. Due to the nature of me losing my entire system, and with it all registration information have pretty much written it all off. Although for some of the more expensive mods, have tried to contact the various ISV's in hopes of retrieving the software/codes, and essentially just trying to get everything back in order.

In regards to my attitude, I sincerely apologize to everyone I may have offended. I'm truly a very nice, outgoing, helpful person. Just lately, I've been really stressed out due to not having any solutions to my issues.

Been spending a lot of late nights re-configuring my system, including the insane amount of ansi stuff on the terminal side. The built in ansi drawing program is giving me issues with some stuff as well. So between system configurations, and not having a single mod to play with to reduce some stress between projects, I suppose I came off a bit harsh.

I plan to support what very few ISV's we do have, by purchasing what they offer. However, I am on fixed disability income, so I don't have purchasing power like normal working folks. My hope is to buy a mod every month, until I have lots of great stuff to offer on my system.

In closing, again I apologize for my rude tone on here. I was wrong, and I feel bad about it, and probably should have refrained entirely. Between real life struggles with being disabled, and losing my system and all paperwork really hurts me inside.

I sincerely appreciate the feedback I have been given. I also applaud you for keeping your systems online for others to enjoy. I hope to be online myself again soon, because running one gives me much joy and satisfaction.

if it worked in 2006 it works today, trust me, over the course of years sites move and addresses change but my system has resided in the same place since 1995, on a corner desk in my bedroom.

im not too aware of any sites like mine that are loaded with downloads and because of that i make it a point to always keep my system up.

as for majormud until my archives pop back up install a base 1.11m or 1.11o system and when you get 1.11o it will install over just fine.

Your correct, after a certain version they changed their policies to require registered owners to contact them for the latest release/builds. However they no longer respond to emails, and or no longer in business.

i have over 92,480 files available for download but i have my archive offline as i migrate to a more stable file transfer system, you just came in at a bad time, these other people been downloading from me for years.[/quote]

That's quite a repository you have there, does that also include the WG-NT stuff as well?

What I really meant to say was that sites and links that we're provided here for various things that worked in 2006 or so, don't all work today. Which is why I'm having issues finding reliable sources for various things.

Even back in my golden days of running my board, never even came close to what you have. And back then I was a hoarder of various file libraries. That's quite an accomplishment on your part. :D

Sure, sounds great, where might one go to procure this? I think debunked Metro site may have a version like 1.1h, but that's kinda old. I've been out of the loop so if anyone knows of a reliable source, that would be fantastic.
I'm not interested in torrents, although seeing majormud in the package is very tempting, but I'm not interested in pirates

Goodluck with your huge libraries dspain, can't wait to peruse your offerings, when that time arises.
