Wanted: MajorNet Archives!

Post by Questman »

I'd like to host an archive of MajorNet, kind of like Google has Newsgroup archives going back to the early 1990s.

As such, we need someone who had a MajorNet BBS that never deleted any messages and still has backups...

Anyone??

Can't help you, but I recall some "interesting" and lengthy arguments about gun laws :)

actually you're in luck guy named sam out here in virginia bought a bbs called richcomm back in 1996 ran it til 1999 he was a majornet sysop. i vaguely remember the bbs he had like 36 lines and for $8.00 a month you could get telnet access to other bbs's and in 1996 that was pretty big.
problem was he had some kids as his gameops gave em the tele-arena editor they messed it up pretty good he started losing clients boom put it in a closet.
his problem is he's looking at the value of a majorbbs 6.21 system under dos 5 from 1996 not 2006.
so im working on him its a 486 sx/33 <<lol>> 16mb ram and he has the original packaging on everything and has several disks backed up cause he used to do a system backup nightly, ill let ya know what comes out of it.
also i aqquired gaso-line bbs from ronald beck in richmond complete bbs using majorbbs with the wg 1.01 upgrade and tons of old stuff like mutants, swords and sorcery,etc.... ill let ya know on that too.

bump? :)

just noticed this thread. i've got a zip of the bbs from like 1997 somewhere. it carried a decent majornet feed and it should have quite a few messages. if you're still looking for some, that is.

Definitely. Would like to make the old messages available, especially those from 1992/3 (whenever it started) on

When I've got an evening to spare, I'll see if I can get the old bbs running on a spare computer. :)

Hi guys, anyone ever got their hands on old majornet archives?

Found only one BBS still holding the archives, problem is that the QWK exporter crashes the whole BBS when used (I notified the Sysop).

No. Make sure that Sysop grants you access to the Sysop forums too -- that's what I'm really interested in :)
