This seems to happen very regularly. I can't help but think it's running on crash-prone WG 3.20...

Don once told me the software is fine.
but the old abused POS computers have a few problems.
now, thou wg 3.3 has a load of buggys in it.

Heh - that makes things even more interesting.

This will sound like a rant, but I'm not trying too. I just dont waste time with throwing in a bunch of warm fuzziness into writing about technical stuff.

Though I dont think it's possible for a server app of this complexity to be bug free, in fairness I have so far had no problems with 3.3. Whatever bugs 3.3 may have, it seems to stay up and running, which is most important to me. It was 3.20 that I couldn't keep up and running.

As for the old POS computers, I really scratch my head on that one. I mean, this is a community of BBS sysops - we're all geeks here. How easy is it for any of us to slap together at least one half-way decent, non-POS, non-abused box from spare parts to run a commercial web site devoted to selling the greatest BBS server product in history? I guess I just find it confusing that this has yet to happen. You can buy a scootin' new box down at Wal-Mart for $300. That's the price of a low-end video card in one of my game boxes.

My main point, however, is the gcomm.com web site, which is the home of Worldgroup.

If there's one way to fail to instill confidence in a commercial communications server product (and a legendary one at that), have the main web site to that product crash all the time. And then have that server be down for three or more days before anyone even takes the time to bring it back online.

I guess my point is that if the world's most powerful BBS product in history was mine to sell, I'd be actively engaged with never letting myself get caught looking like I didnt take my own product seriously.

Just my own worthless opinions.

Interesting, I have great luck with 3.20, and no luck with 3.3. The only crash related instances I've had with 3.2 are all related to add-on modules.

What is a POS cmputer... I'm dense today.

I've found WG to be very forgiving and run on most anything reliably.

And yes, add-on modules are the weakest link of any product. A BBS is only as stable as the modules you add to them. Typically, anyway.

Look at the entire history of Windows. Stable out of the box until you start installing stuff.

Very true; The one copy of Vista I have runs fine, until I actually try to use it to do something....
