I know it's been awhile since I've been on here, and have sort of asked this before, but will there ever be a time when worldgroup and share and pass on account/logon information to php and mysql programs?
I know i've asked about mmorpgs and such in the past, and that's probably a bit much, but is any one working on some thing like this? Is it possible at all?
An example of this would be using updated php forums, maybe having php browser based games (legend of the green dragon, etc) and some php arcade games and worldgroup tied all together, one signup page, one login/password page.
I've seen web forums set up to share arcade games and high scores, using various setups. Why can't worldgroup do the same? I'd even be in favor of using a completely different web server, because worldgroup's web server just isn't reliable. So many times, you have to double and triple click on forums or file areas to get the pages to actually show up. But one thing at a time.
Is any work being done with worldgroup now?

nate sent me the code to it year or so ago and a small game he began to write using it, some of the things i seen in it seemed a bit laggy the way it was calling but if hes still working on it it may just do what you'reasking, but as far as external mods i think anything that can plug into your DSN should be able to read it.

If its possible to take data directly from the MajorMUD dats its possible to do it with LoRD

That is awesome. I knew there was a whois online active html file out there, but having their active stats as well. It's a lot more interactive than I would have ever imagined majormud could be.
What'd I'd like to be able to do with worldgroup is to allow people with no accounts read the forums on the web, even if they couldn't post to them with out logging on, but even then, there is some type of bug in both the forums and file libraries, where the connection times out sometimes when you click on a file library or file name or whatever.
Speaking of LORD... How interactive could you get, with out having the source code to individual games? Is it possible use some type of overlay system on the web, plus a command module that translates the commands in to the game? You know, play LORD on the web but not through those java telnet/ansi clients - maybe put some svga menus on it., or any other game for that matter.

N/M.. I see you've opened up a sorceforge page to build that majormud control panel system. I browsed your files. Looks like you've done a boatload of work on that bad boy..
I'm also going to assume that you have to upgrade to pervasive for all of that stuff to work.. I only had that one mod not working correctly through pervasive 9.5 (the rose - council of guardians) but if they can get that one to work, maybe I'd consider upgrading to it. My demo expired on the other machine, but only $25 is a good price.
The thing is.. I don't have majormud. So, it would have to have some type of other stuff for me to do it. LORD stuff, or other mod stuff, php forums, etc..

i wrote the whos online module he uses to dump the data, its freeware if you want a copy.Malakai wrote:N/M.. I see you've opened up a sorceforge page to build that majormud control panel system. I browsed your files. Looks like you've done a boatload of work on that bad boy..

Yup I put a download link to the whois mod on my sourceforge project.. (hope you dont mind dspain - gave you full credit for it though)
And the only thing currently missing from the project is the DSN which I can give to you. The project is still in its infancy but I will eventually make it more end user friendly.
Yes you need to upgrade to 9.5. I will eventually create a guide to upgrading as well. Did you upgrade all your dats? (dont know if I have asked you this or not) But I tried running this with Rose yet.

Yes, you helped me get all of the dat files converted and every thing ran smoothly, besides the rose cog...
This project really shows promise and it also means, if you really know what you're doing, worldgroup could get a complete revival, with out ever having to touch a bit of the worldgroup source code itself.
I imagine it has taken you a lot of work and time to get where you are today, but if you ever want to do more, then see what you can do about other mods. I honestly wouldn't know what to do. I've text edited many of the data files and couldn't come up with any thing useful to use :/ but I suppose you just have to know what you're doing to understand how it all works.
