Yesterday, I picked up a nice little server: dual cpu xeon 500mhz system, with 1gb ecc registered pc100 168-pin SDRAM, 120gb 7200RPM 2mb cache ide hard drive, 10/100 network card, ati video card (3-d compatible in linux/xwindows, out of the box), integrated scsi (4 ports), scsi tape drive, scsi cd-rom drive, and a huge case - for, believe it or not, $30!

No clue what I'm going to do with it, although it could be a good linux or windows 2000 workstation.

2 17" monitors in nice shape $4 apiece

Today, I found a wrt54g wireless-g linksys router for $9.99. It was about halfway bricked, but I was able to do a hard reset, upgrade the firmware, and save it. It was like new otherwise and included the box, cd, power supply, antennas..

Also bought a 16 track digital multi-track recorder. The damn thing has so many buttons, knobs, levelers, and features that it'll take me 6 months to figure out how to use it. It has a cd-rw in it and scsi output for zip drives and such and even has spdif output, which is a good way to have a digital connection from the recorder to a mixdown recorder, monitors, or a receiver. No, I didn't get a deal on this one.... but I really wanted it :/

yeah considering my newest motherboard was 550 by itself no fan no cpu

This bad boy has an 80mm fan on the cpus. I've actually got 3 15gb SCSI hard drives and just need the right SCSI cable to connect atleast two of them in it and use the 120gb for myself. Might use the 120gb hard drive in my modded xbox - only have a 36gb in it and it doesn't store very much stuff..

I've got mandrake 8.2 linux on it now but not sure what's going to stay in it.

i'd get rid of mandrake 8.2 and upgrade to mandriva.

i got an SCSI card and cable if ya need it.

What kind of scsi cable is it? Does it have a terminator? The motherboard already has an adaptec scsi controller integrated.

yes has an scsi terminator.

I just got through installing windows xp pro on the system, and it seems like it's just as fast, if not faster, than my 1.26ghz system. The difference being the 1.26ghz eserver uses regular piii cpus, and the new system uses xeon 500mhz cpus with 2mb of L2 cache ram. That cache ram must make a lot of difference. I'm almost tempted to test worldgroup on the new system and see if it performs any better...

the scsi cable i need is an internal 68-pin lvd/se cable, with atleast 3 device inputs on it and a terminator. If that's what you've got, let me know how much you want for it (shipped).

WG handles quite well on a similiar system i had here at the shop.

the SCSI cable is:

SCSI LVD/SE

has 4 device inputs on it, and a terminator.

I mainly put xp on it to check for bad sectors on the hard drive, and surprisingly, none were found... need to make sure I won't have to take it back out of the xbox any time soon hehe... still have to connect the xbox up to my network and transfer all of the save game files..

Also got an acoustic modeling processor on ebay today. Hopefully, it'll be halfway descent and make my $1000 acoustic guitar sound like a $4000 one hehe :/
