So I have been slowly working on my getting my old server back online and enjoying the memories from all that, but I want to utilize some of the hardware I have here and one idea was to make my own PPP dialup connection. I remember Vircom having a module a long time ago to handle that but with Worldgroup 3.2 I don't see any modules for it and I do not see where the settings are for it.
I know I can go with the Windows Server PPP dialup RAS setup but what is the fun of doing something you already know if you can learn a new way of doing it? :)
Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Setting up a dial-up PPP connection...
Re: Setting up a dial-up PPP connection...
Were you an ISP back in the day with your Worldgroup server? Yes, Vircom had many tools to enable dialup internet access through SLIP/PPP gateways.
But I doubt anyone today still connect to the internet through "plain old telephone system" (POTS) modems and Trumpet Winsock!
For instance, I just use my cable modem through my ISP to browse web and write you this.
If you only want to put your old BBS back online, you just need to open and expose the built-in telnet server of WG.
You can check many MajorBBS/Worldgroup examples here: http://telnetbbsguide.com
If you still have your reg# and activation code, you can install the 3.2 software from here: https://www.themajorbbs.com/files/
Don't hesitate to ask questions,
Cheers,

Major TCP/IP supported this. you setup a PPP / SLIP connection dialed in to say America Online with your login/pass
and boom you were up and running.

Re: Setting up a dial-up PPP connection...
I understand getting my system back up via the internet and it is already running. I also setup dialup access to my board as a novelty item more than functionality but since I have a dial up access, I wanted to know if I could setup a PPP connection with the dial up. It has absolutely no practical use but lets be honest, this is not about being practical.
I wanted to know if there was a module that would help or if there were settings that did this native in Worldgroup 3.2 as the last time I did something like this, it was over 20 years ago.
Vircom modules on this matter are not available for 3.2.

pretty sure the worldgroup connectivity option (ICO3) for the win32 product removed this feature.
maybe not the 3.0 nt product as much but that later versions.
