funny you mention that me and joe are gonna put together another worldgroup type network.
i currently have one i designed using synchronets QWK-net methods
hell i use to be members of the olf wwiv-net networks and such from the 90's using that exact technology and im a fidonet gateway as well using argus to toss my fido packets.

its definately going to need to be the next great move in this project.

with rick finding and re distrobuting the old isv's once again and i have been working round the clock on porting old modules i have found and creating a whole catalog of new ones what few users we have i know can rise again once it goes global.

MailLink was the add-on that ran MajorNet. We can easily do this, as Dialsoft owns MailLink now. I actually have the code. If you're interested, I can talk to him about taking it over and getting it out there..

good deal this definately fits my vision for worldgroups future.

i mean look at synchronet thet have had dovenet [same thing as majornet]
since 1989 comes pre installed on every new synchronet server.

so all future releases of wg i would love to see a preinstalled message network thats plug n go

i built my version of majornet which is running on a synchronet news server of mine and playing with ways to have wg export/import it

Great!

The main reason I want to stay in WG2.0 is I have a several older computers that I use to run the BBS. If I upgrade I will have to use one of my other Server to run WG3.x. With window server 2000/2003 Worldgroup and the IIS services do not play well. Also I have important customers stuff running on them and I cant mess with the performance. Also I have some modules that I cant get (yet) for WG3.X.

well for someone to run a simple hobby bbs they dont need alot of bells and whistles.
install add the games let er go.
i also run all my customer stuff on my bigger pc's and cannot afford a gp error or something crashing,rebooting,etc....

wg 2.0 out of the box is perfect for a simple bbs.

A good 3.2 install would be AWESOME! Alot more mods out there for it and I would like to start the Dev in that version if I can. But, the 3.3 version did match the version I had before. Seems to run smoother than what I have on CD from Mr. Barr. Thank you for your patience in this matter. Now, I just have to wait for my next team meeting (because we all work to death outside in the real world) before we move to the next step.

Very cool. I will start my setup next week as finals are here for school (I'm 28 and a late bloomer..haha). After that, I should be able to create the first tele game that we were looking at.

BACK TO THE SUBJECT...hehe

Post by The Storm »

MajorNet:

Do we believe that this will happen? This would be a great feature to any of BBS's as it's a way to boost reading material as well as an interactive place for conversation when the teleconference isn't being used. Let's face it, the Teleconference isn't that well used these days unless you're on Peazy's Place where they have the Annex Hotel (God, wish they still had that in production to be registered as well as their Command Center).

I would love to get a network going as well as a REAL WorldLink going as well. The one from WorldGroupWare.com works great for linking teleconferences but to be honest, I have never gotten echos to work there.

So, lets make MajorNET happen...again.

i dont see why not i mean hell even synchronet comes preinstalled out of the box with its own personal network thats been around since 1994 i bought synchrnet as a door bbs for my majorbbs v6 system back in 1995 and dovenet was around then.
so yes its very possible.

Let's face it, the Teleconference isn't that well used these days unless you're on Peazy's Place where they have the Annex Hotel (God, wish they still had that in production to be registered as well as their Command Center).

i got annex hotel, and annex globals.
the globals i got are for the sole purpose of duplicating them.

command center i have been working on for over a week now trying to match what it looked like 100%.
rick said they were not interested in seeling the source, the rights, or even registrations anymore so ill just match it.
i would have had it released by now but i messed up during development and actually added features from datasafe's global power.
so i had to redo it.

I would love to get a network going as well as a REAL WorldLink going as well. The one from WorldGroupWare.com works great for linking teleconferences but to be honest, I have never gotten echos to work there.

all we need is one dedicated system from our little community here to be a host and everyone connect to them via worldlink then get someone to start making a forum like module to plug into it.

So, lets make MajorNET happen...again.

I can register you a copy of Annex Hotel and Annex Globals, and all of the Annex products. They're now part of Elwynor Technologies ISV.

I've been given the go-ahead to distribute MailLink to those interested.

I need to go through the source code and get it to compile first, but Dialsoft is allowing us to distribute the game freely to those interested.

Stay tuned.

Hello

Let me ask you then is MajorFido still around to be able to pickup?
I can, but don't really want to run two BBS packages other then for a 16 bit game server :!:

Thanks!

In the near future, I'd like to hooking up to your network, I would hope with WG! Or I hope, MajorBBS (Renamed)!

Any who, lets do that sometime as soon as I get settled in my new home in Florida!

Thanks.....

good deal, majorbbs renamed? nah i say keep the legacy name, majorbbs was a solid product and there are no known bugs except small perks and tweaks.

i actually did alot of fixing in the core wg2 source but havent released any updates yet til i can find a work around the core embedded port support of galico 2. rick is looking into what i can see w/o violating pacsoft,etc...

i have pacsoft libraries i use to compile galwebd for wg2 but i wanna add the same support for optional port enhancements i did in galico 3.

if i ever can get ahold of galtntd and galrlgnd for wg2
the update will include a beta of my dma client for dos.

but thats for the dos sysops, you're gonna be on NT so you're straight.

as far as my networks right now i have a generic majornet using QWK-net technology and im working with 2 guys one Scott Thompson who used to work for pharlap and then another guy who used to work for vircomm back in 1998 to replicate qwk-net technology like wwiv, vbbs, synchro all utilized in the 90's.

alot easier to setup than fido-gates,etc... and simply does its own thing using the FTP protocol.

the networks are completely done and tested using synchronet 3.14
and WWIV 5.0 when i find a way to integrate it into wg ill let ya know.

as Joe has said time and time again net support for wg w/o the need of external addons is the way to go.

Ya, I love QWK being when you hook up the first time with your upfeed you pull ALL messages from every echo you have picked! And yes, I agree with your friend QWK is the way to go, rather then running sometimes depending on the BBS software a mailer and a tosser, qwk is sooo easy to use.

Good when I get settled in my new place maybe I'll be able to hook up to you with QWK. :D
If it's not broke, why fix it!

I sent a message over maillink asking if anyone was still around,so far one bbs from Indiana responded.
I'de love to see majornet get going again like dovenet, that Synchronet bbses use.

So, lets make MajorNET happen...again.

if everyone could get on the same page with the product availability, and support im sure it would boom again.
right after the bankrupty of gcomm tech alot of people lost interest and now have a bad taste in their mouth whenever you mention wg.

i mean these people paid a kings ransom for some of the stuff tey got and couldnt even get basic support emails answered.

now years later hard to get em back into it with programsl ike synchronet,etc.. for free.

Does any one know how many, if any, worldgroup systems out there are still using maillink? I've downloaded it from dialsoft but haven't done much anything else with it yet...

I doubt it. Never really looked, if they were it wasn't obvious. Some possibilities to contact if you want to start a Maillink setup though.

Really Old

Post by Franchise_24 »

I know this is really old, but did you guys ever get Mail Link running? I would love to have networked message bases on my WGNT system. That is one of the only things I feel it is lacking. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Neal

I had Maillink on my wg 3.2 system and got omly like 2 messages every 2 months or so. mostly just other sysops asking if anyone else was here.

Is it easy to set up? What kind of message bases do they have?
