Worldlink servers shut down?

Post by Malakai »

Worldlink servers have been down for like 4 or 5 days now. Any one know what's going on?

I haven't really noticed since the boards that use it to connect actually don't use their teleconferencs. WorldGroupWare.com is the host for that and doesn't have any affiliation with this system here...it's rumored that another WorldLink server would be in the works at a future date under the correct ownership.

Yeah, we definately need another option, since it looks like Don has shut server down, most likely since most of the boards that were connected to it weren't paying him for worldgroup any more :/

Rick, is it possible that you could put the worldlink server module online for every one to download?

What is needed to get a WorldLink server up and running? Is the software already in WG to do this?

For creating a WorldLink server? If so, could you tell me where?

the Client is built into wg3X, not the server side.
the WL server modual was always run by gcomm and never
given out, thats what I heard.
I think Rick should give it out so people can run thier own
linkup systems.

%WGDEV%\src\worsrc\wlsvr

i would post a copy but mine is modified, been working on http authentication methods to verify the server something i was working on about 2yrs ago never got around to finishing it.

i agree on allowing anyone to host wl servers though.
no need for one system to do it all, never know when it can go down and you're screwed.

There was definately a couple copies leaked, but I personally don't have it. From what I've heard, it was just an addon module for worldgroup. So, any one could run it.

Yes, I was referring to the client being built in to worldgroup.

Yes, the worldlink server should definately be offered to all worldgroup sysops so that people could link up to whoever or whichever bbs systems they want to, and probably fix the message bases on it as well. Who knows, maybe more features could also be added to it.

Or at least license it out to another site or 2 sites; so there are backup options....

If you had 2 different server sites up..could they link? Not sure how the server end works for Worldlink.

Well, I would love to use it in order to get MajorNET up and running. I think it's a great idea to release this or at least have an official server that does it all.

Worldlink isn't MajorNet - MajorNet was Maillink.

I haven't successfully tested the code that I have for Worldlink Server. I haven't had the opportunity to play with it - hasn't really been a priority seeing as nobody really uses Worldlink anyway when WGWare has it up.

I have what I think is the latest version (certainly Galacticomm's latest), but..

I have a keygen for Maillink but can't figure out how to use it :-).. it was really weird.. has a stupid nodelist compiler thingy. I gotta bug Marc.

I connect to Worldlink every night, and when I check there is always 5-6 other sytems connected. I think you would get the connections, we just need to get the users using it; or figure out why WGware isn't passing the forum messges.

I think we should figure out a way to bypass worldgroupware completely. When they go down for months at a time, unannounced, they just can't be considered reliable.
