well who here could offer 100% uptime of a worldlink server?Franchise_24 wrote:I agree. He doesn't stop by much anymore. What platform does it run on? Does it take a Full WG Install or is it a separate Module.dspain wrote:well who here could offer 100% uptime of a worldlink server?Franchise_24 wrote:I agree. I've offered before, I have a Dedicated Server hanging at HostGator with Quad Core 2.93 Ghz CPU, 8 GB RAM, 1TB RAID 5 Hard Drive Space running Windows Server 2008 R2.
You think this would be fast enough?
prolly an overkill, i found that all this new stuff chokes WG up too much.Syclops wrote:What platform does it run on? ok so im a 1/3 of the speed.
thats not too bad, im gettng reaqdy to get a serious connection going on, starting up one of those adult webcam .coms.Syclops wrote:It's the Upstream that really counts if it starts getting a bunch of traffic.
Your Cable Modem Upstream is about 1/10th of my Dedicated and a hell of alot better than my Cable Modem Upstream
That Dedicated costs me about 450.00 Per Month and comes with 10 TB of Bandwidth and 16 IP Addresses
haha nice.Syclops wrote:I've been thinking about a Adult Dating / WebCam Site as well. I've even acquired a Domain Name for my future project, BOINKIN.COM.dspain wrote:thats not too bad, im gettng reaqdy to get a serious connection going on, starting up one of those adult webcam .coms.
yeah its definately big bucks if done right, i have spent the past 13-14 months just working on visions, impact statements, and the way i want things to run.
i dont wanan be another smut site i want all ads outside the site to be clean and the site itself to look very professional until you log in to keep the stuff from kids.
also got a badass idea for "credit" purchases which is what will be used for their perm inute charges with the girls, and not only live stuff but video streaming for X credits per minute, photo galleries, i want the whole 9.
me and the ole lady been planning it for a couple years now gonna get the wheels turning on it soon though.
Check out this PHP Software called Dolphin 7. http://www.boonex.com Pretty reasonable and a ton of add-ons for it including a multi-user video chat module for about 300.00. They even have Mobile Apps available.

but there was some delay between responses so he may be busy with something.
thats why i had to make my own SQLite SDK for wg which ships with a teleconference module to help sysops/isv developers get their foot in the door.

Hahaha. just config the scheduler to only call at 12:00pm then at 3am, 10x each. Then you'll only get 20 connection fail messages. Would be nice to see WL back up.Ragtop wrote:It's working fine. My question is, why hasn't WorldLink Server been released for all of us to run if we want to. At least there would be Multiple WL Hubs to select from.
I know that there are at least a few of us that could support putting up a full time WL Server. Doing that might actually breath some life back into this product.

i think the thing gcomm wanted to do was be the only hub available hence it wasd an internal system used by them.Syclops wrote:My question is, why hasn't WorldLink Server been released for all of us to run if we want to. At least there would be Multiple WL Hubs to select from.

but yes we should be able to do different hubs now.

what we need are people that are volunteering to stick with it. i understand bbsing "is dead" as they say it and yes its not as popular as it used to be but hell let it sit on a small server in the back room and let her run, i know websites still hosted on people's computers right now that wont even display in any IE browser post 4.1 cause they are so old yet still online.Ragtop wrote:Is is possible to set up multiple WL servers and have the servers connect to each other also? That way, no matter which one we connect to, we still have everyone connected and even if one goes down, we can connect to another and still have everyone connected.
i got a wg2 bbs running righ beside me that still got 20 modems connected to her, even though shes using major tcp/ip
and while it wont answer dial-in calls it still answers telnet conenctions
its not in the way so no need to take it down.
so the next WL server admin we get please stick around or don;t commit to something you cannot see through.
I agree 100%. It doesn't take much to run these things, and other than checking occasionally to make sure it hasn't crashed, require almost no attention if you didn't want to mess with it. I was just suggesting multiple servers as an option in case one does crash/die/whatever. Just wasn't sure if it was possible to set them up that way. It would be nice if it could and all the connections showed up on all the boards, regardless of which server they connect to.
i've never seen the WL server itself but maybe it could run liek a mirror site does, i dunno.Ragtop wrote:I agree 100%. but then again netvillage has one online and when Rick's is online do they see each other? i dunno.
i got plenty servers all unix-based though, the only win32 stuff i do really is borland stuff for wg or an occasional standalone c++ server,
was playing with mutants but wanna talk to majorsoft before getting too serious, and JP gave me permission to develop tradewars 2 - 500T for wg as long as it remains a turn based trading game and doesnt directly compete with the features of tw2002, anyhow, got off topic
yeah i'm not sure they can run like that but one could always make it work i suppose.
i was talking with a guy a couple years ago about making a WL-messenger like aim, etc.. he said he had to WL code but we lsot touch, good thing Rick has one, we need a static server and a mirror or 2.
if one address dont connect have it code to try address#2, address#3, repeat ....
The way they are currently set up, when you are connected to one, you don't see anything about the other. And that may be how it has to be. There are options for multiple servers to connect to but you can only connect to one at a time (as far as I know), and it doesn't seem to scroll through them if it doesn't connect. I keep both addresses in there so I can easily switch them out manually when one goes down.
On a side note, I read in the docs that WL can be used to send email to internet email addresses, outside of the worldlink network. I've tried to get mine set up to send this way since I can't send any other way, but no luck. Any idea how to set this up?

WL also has a forums option, so we could use WL forums and link em between systems.Ragtop wrote:The way they are currently set up, when you are connected to one, you don't see anything about the other. The mail side of worldlink use to work but was disabled on the worldlink server due to the amount of spam. Your probably best to disable cnf option USEWL as the worldlink server will no longer accept mail. Hopefully it will be back up soon, I see a post from Questman saying they are working on it.Ragtop wrote:The way they are currently set up, when you are connected to one, you don't see anything about the other. While Questman's WL server has been down, I've been connecting to the netvillage server (don't judge me ) I've noticed that all day long, boards connect to it for a couple minutes and then log off. The way it's happening looks like connecting, sending mail and disconnecting. So I think the netvillage server is still set up for this. I just need to figure out how to configure it to send.
If I can get it to work on there, I will connect to Questman's primarily but hit the netvillage server periodically to send mail. Unless Questman will open his back up but limit it to us somehow.

The options in CNF are pretty much straight forward, just be sure to use the prefix WL:Styker@themajorbbs.com and not IN:Stryker@themajorbbs.com to send mail throught worldlink.Ragtop wrote:While Questman's WL server has been down, I've been connecting to the netvillage server (don't judge me ) I've noticed that all day long, boards connect to it for a couple minutes and then log off. If you use the prefix
WL: worldgroup will try to send the message thru worldlink
IN: will send thru worldgroups internal smtp.
You can change the prefix IN and WL to other letters in CNF but you will also need to edit the text string help and others to match.
