CONNECT 0 NEVER RECEIVED

Post by Toyduck »

Why would an attempt to connect to Worldlink give this response? It occurs with both 3.2 and 3.3, at two seperate locations using different IP addresses. I also have the new .dll file. I can ping out and receive a response from the worldlink addresses...

Any suggestions? :oops:

Another possibility is WL is trying to "dial-out" on a line that is not working properly. I was getting those message when WL was trying to dial-out using an IP address on an actual dial-up line on my board.

This can also happen if WL is restricted to using channels that are not defined. (i.e. you have it set to use channels 01 thru 0F, but the board is only using 01 thru 0E)

Good point, I will look at that. thanks.

I don't have any dial-up lines, only telnet. but I will double check the channel configurations anyway. One of my boards is a fresh 3.3 install (hd failure on the server with the 3.2 vesion), and the other a still running 3.2 version, up since 2006.

I was also wondering about that possibility. I never did hear
back from the pheedom sysop when I sent the info.

WG 3.3
OK; I checked all my channel settings..seem OK. I can also telnet out and telnet in to the computer from the command line and from Windows. I can telnet into the WG server, but I cannot telnet out, nor can WL make a connection? Have I missed a configuration option somewhere for 3.3?

With the 3.2 system, it now connects ok with the original .dll. Is the new .dll compatible with 3.2? It doesn't work on my 3.2 system.

Thanks
TD

Did you be sure to set the DNS server IP address in the configuration? It won't dial without it.

You don't need approval to use worldlink.themajorbbs.com - the first time you connect it'll create the account for your BBS.

General Config - DNS is set. I will resolve a name; just won't connect (3.3) system.

On the 3.2 System it is now working; I set DOMTYP on Domain in General Config, it nowworks, but gives a host/domain name of QS2.
Which is weird. Won't connect at all using the new .DLL.

EDIT: This would be for DOMTYP of HOSTNAME. If you did DOMAIN you can probably just drop the hostname field.

Ahh, you're the qs2. board. Not sure if it will make a difference with WorldLink, but you can set that to be corrected in the following:

CNF-> General Setup -> DNS Resolver (Internet Domain Name Service)
-> HOSTNAM: bbs
-> DOMAIN: informationware.com

The above example would be for "bbs.informationware.com" You can change to suit your needs. Anything you put in the HOSTNAM field will automatically have a trailing "." after it. (i.e. informationware.com would become informationware.com.). I think you can leave it blank if your BBS is attached to a domain only.

Another result of this is if you have Internet mail enabled on your board you need to include the hostname portion of your FQDN if you want mail to route properly. This can be found under:

CNF -> General Setup -> SMTP Mail Sender (Exporter) -> SMTIHST

Set this to YES if you have a hostname portion to your domain name.

Thanks , that seems to have gotten rid of the QS2, and now shows my domain address, still has a "." there..I left the entry hostname entry blank. Beggers can't be choosers. :D

Are you DOMTYP of HOSTNAME or DOMAIN now?

I'm thinking DOMAIN might drop the leading "." if you're not already on DOMAIN.

Also make sure SMTIHST is set to "No" if you plan on using Internet e-mail addressing.

EDIT: I know it can be fixed because pheedom.net, adeptbbs.com, and eclipsebbs.com all have it working as domain names only.

I will check, don't really remember now...too many changes...:)

Also, I'm running 3.2. Can't get my 3.3 to connect at all.
