Ok, I'll ask again politely (bats eyes) can someone give me direction on setting up the world link forums? I created a new forum WGSysop for example. Got to the end where it asked to add an echo and added WF:wl.sysop.general and it adds it but I dont think my messages are going out. When I look at it online in the settings in the remote management it has a red question mark next to it and then it says
Your request could not be completed for the following reason:
The requested item could not be found.
What am I doing wrong? I added the 4 sysop ones and thats what they all say.
Please HELP!! <G>

I just logged onto your board. The first thing I noticed is you're connected to worldlink, but not to our worldlink hub. Go into your worldlink schedule configuration and change the address to worldlink.themajorbbs.com and reconnect. My guess is you're connecting to the netvillage hub, and that's the problem.

Really? I'm almost positive I changed it over...lemme look and report back...
Edit:
Ok I checked it, and I *DID* switch over to the majorbbs Worldlink, but some how it was still connecting to netvillage?? GO figure. The only problem I saw was it didn't like to resolve worldlink.themajorbbs.com so I had to ping it and use the actual IP Address and it connected right up, and I instantly got messages in the Sysop section of the worldlink forums. I sent a message out so if any Sysops can check it that'd be great. Now I just need to take some time to load in all the other ones.
P.S.
How do you configure the QWK packets? I wanted to download a packet and all it scanned was the HELLO forum thats preloaded. I couldn't even find and option to select what all ones you'd want to download.
Thanks for all the help
Neal

Working?
Is this finally working. I would like to join this, I still run the largest BBS and have about 60 24/7 users. I believe some of them will like it. We talk about the old char system from time to time. My top user base has increased lately with the closing of a lot of boards that have gotten frustrated and given up.
If it is working.. I would like to sign up for it.

Re: Working?
There really isn't anything to sign up for. Just point your Worldlink dialer to worldlink.themajorbbs.com and it will connect. Currently, there are about 8-10 boards, with a total of 60 or so users, connecting to it. Be nice to have another big one.SouthernCross wrote:Is this finally working. OK, I will set it up later. I put in the new DLL awhile back trying to get it on Questman's server, only to find out it was offline. I will work on it later. My wife had an early biopsy, so worked all night and was at the hospital with her for 7 hours.
I will set it up after I get some sleep and have a fresh mind to look at it.

I tried connecting, I posted the pics here for the dialer. The connection times out.

Is there other settings besides the scheduler/dialup I need to set up?
thanks

Reverse the time settings. You have it connecting from 11:59 til 12:00. I'd bump up the redial tries also.SouthernCross wrote:I tried connecting, I posted the pics here for the dialer. The connection times out.

Changes, I changed the IP in the wordlink scheduler to my board IP and put these changes in the dialer.
Anything with change is what I changed.
Are there any other settings I need to work change anywhere besides what I posted in the pics to log on?
Also is a picture of my dialsoft control, do I need to set it to accept the incoming? It is the one titled control

It doesn't affect if you can connect or not, but you should make two changes in this picture: http://hatedreality.homeunix.net/worldlink/Capture5.PNG
HOSTNAM should be hatedrelaity
DOMAIN should be homeunix.net
This will allow it to show up properly in the systems list. If you want your board to be mail enabled you also need to set SMTIHST to YES if it needs to include the hostname portion of your FQDN in outgoing messages (i.e. southerncross@hatedreality.homeunix.net vs. southerncross@homeunix.net).
As for CONNECT 0 NEVER RECEIVED, I've seen that when it's attempting to dial out on an invalid channel (or a dial up line if you have one). Looks like it's trying to use channel C8 from your audit pic. Is C8 a valid TCP/IP channel in your setup?
Another issue could be DNS resolution is failing (i.e. the board isn't translating worldlink.majorbbs.com to an IP). Make sure you've got a valid DNS server IP specified under CNF -> General -> DNS Resolver -> IPNSVR. I'm using Google's 8.8.8.8 as my ISP's has had reliability issues.
I've got my BBSIP address set to the FQDN for my BBS, I think the only thing this effects is the output of the ^I (info) command in WL.
I'm not sure how/if Dialsoft control messes with WL as WL is just a dial out from the BBS not in.
I'm happy to help and can usually be found lurking these forums semi-regularly, or in any of the board's that are on WL in the main WL teleconference channel.

I see you guys on there now! Might want to make one more setting change.
Under CNF -> General -> Worldlink Scheduler -> DOMTYP
It's probably set to DOMAIN, should be HOSTNAME. Right now you're advertised as "homeunix.net" instead of "hatedreality.homeunix.net"
Dave
p.s. Welcome to Worldlink!

Omne last problem ro work out. How do I add the forums to my board and teleconference. I added a new screenshot to the FTP link called forums. How do I set it so players can read the forums and use the teleconference feature?
I also set it to hostname and getting the 0 message again.
Thanks Again
Dave

I'll be honest, I have no idea how to do them via the Active HTML pages.
I just do it in terminal text mode. It's under the Forums menu, then Operations, then Create new Forum.
Just add the appropriate echo after the other info is setup using the WF:wl.forum.name as the echo name.

Ok this is the message i get from the new audit trail when I try to link back up.
http://hatedreality.homeunix.net/worldl ... Trail2.PNG
http://hatedreality.homeunix.net/worldl ... Trail2.PNG
Assuming you have it enabled if you type /host worldlink.themajorbbs.com from a terminal mode session does it resolve?
Example:
Networking Connectivity Menu
Command (T,R,F,H,L,? for help, or X to exit): /host worldlink.themajorbbs.com
Looking up worldlink.themajorbbs.com (Press ENTER to abort) ...
The DNS server says worldlink.themajorbbs.com is at 205.166.250.238.
EDIT: I just logged on your board, you do have it enabled, the /host command has the same error: Receiver error 10054: Connection reset by peer
Sounds like a DNS server/setting issue, or if you have something blocking outbound DNS requests... port 53.
What do you have under CNF -> General -> DNS Resolver -> IPNSVR?

You need the IP address of a DNS server.
8.8.8.8 or 4.4.4.4 for Google.
208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220 for OpenDNS.
Any one of those should work fine, or if your ISP provides a quality DNS server, that IP is good too.
I use the 8.8.8.8 without issue.

It looks like your board is already set to use the WorldLink channel by default. I just tested it out. If you've joined the Teleconference before Worldlink links you might have to type JOIN Worldlink in the teleconference to switch the channel.
You likely want to figure out what the issue is with your DNS resolution as if the IP of the WL hub changes it will stop linking. It doesn't change regularly, but it has in the past.
You're welcome for the help, I'm happy to provide it. Patience is required when dealing with this stuff.

I'm pretty sure that's it. Blue diamond, I think, means it's working.
Most of the forums currently have little or no activity.
Be sure to add WGSysop and only allow sysops to view it, you can send test messages there. It has a little of activity.

How do you add new ones to be listed.
I would like to have two added
One is for Majormud Edited Realms
Other and for Hated Reality's Radio Station
http://hatedreality.homeunix.net/web/index.php
(we have our own radio station and the first ever BBS/MUD Related)
Thanks
Dave/Southern

does your provider block certain outgoing ports? I know email is blocked on port 25 to stop spammers on many networks now... if not sure, you could open a telnet program, and telnet out on port 25 to whatever domain you're trying to connect to, and see if you get a prompt... if it appears to connect you should be able to type HELO and get a response?SouthernCross wrote:Everything is running smooth, even got email to work.
However, when I try to send emails out I get the same error message I get when trying to connect by name to Worldlink.
It is an Invalid Ip Address.
Is there a re setting to help resolve that?
i have redesigned galsmtp.dll you can now enter authentication credentials as well as what port to use.Iceman wrote:does your provider block certain outgoing ports? so what ya do is in the smart host use your isp's outgoing smtp address set useauth to yes and submit your name/password and what port to use.
be sure to use regular text i wrote a converter that will encode it to base64 automatically during the transmission.
now THAT is something many people could use, really everytime I see you mention an update to the tcp/ip stuff its something many could use... so if anyone hasn't mentioned it thanks for modernizing things a little, I know people get stuck in a jam when they only have one ISP to work with and all sorts of loops to jump through.dspain wrote: i have redesigned galsmtp.dll you can now enter authentication credentials as well as what port to use.
