yeah vista doesnt have telnet enabled in a core install it has to be flipped manually.
although i reccomend a vista compliant client over the win telnet.

Any ideas on preferably a good freeware version for the Vista lag problems many are complaining about? Majortcp/ip

mbbs or worldgroup shouldn't be run on a xp or vista os.
both have some problems with any 16bit code.
win 2000 was the last to run full 16bit code properly.

That isn't true. XP ran 16 bit code fine. It had the full WOW architecture. Vista was the first to cut it. XP and Server 2003 are fine.

I'm glad to hear that because I'm about to put up another WG system and this one will be on one of my unused Win2003 Server machines!

you're using 3.30 which doesnt have any troubles under XP/2003 minus a small console lockup issue which i have isolated but not had time to play around with making it stop.
so you're safe from these compat issues, they are referring to running majorbbs/wg1/wg2 under windows.

I am running WG 2.0 on a hardrive that I sys'd with the Win98 CD. Windows is not actually installed, just boots to a dos prompt as I never went through the setup.

BBS runs fine, and I can connect fine with an XP machine, but my Vista machine still lags like a fiend even though the BBS isnt being served from a Windows OS.

I have added DWORD->SackOpts->0 to hklm/system/currentcontrolset/services under:

tcpip/parameters
tcpip6/parameters
tcpreg

And two other locations it seemed to be appropriate. None of which have resolved the issue. I do have two extra XP machines laying around and I suppose if I have to I can set one up so I can play, but I'd really rather have an RFC compliant tcp module for the BBS. Any chance one is in the works?

Edit: I installed Vista's telnet client as well as Simple TCP services" and that client connects without lag. Perhaps Im blaming the BBS when I should be blaming my normal telnet client (zMUD)

yes my worldgroup 2.0 development development test bed runs that ame setup....

windows 98 booting to the dos prompt and loading dos network drivers then my wg 2.20 core.

so that setup is perfect for the bbs, as far as lagging hmmm....
are you using the core gcomm ico packages for dos? <galico2>
i noticed high lag when running this and had to purchase tcp/ip from vircomm which eliminated this altogether.

I don't have any external galico* modules installed. Its basic 2 line raw install with whatever telnet support came stock in it.
